Exports have consistently remained above 2 million bpd for the last year, as shown in Graph 1, with the exception of April 2017 when they dipped to 1.84 million bpd. Iran is one of the world's largest oil producers, and the export of oil and gas is worth billions of dollars each year. But both the country's oil output and its GDP fell noticeably under international sanctions.
